
On a fully automatic elliptical screen press, every extra second of flash time is throughput you can’t get back. If the UV lamp doesn’t hit full spectral output the instant the index stops, you end up slowing the conveyor just to keep the ink from stacking. We built an instant-start UV curing lamp to kill that bottleneck. What matters under the hood It’s a high-pressure mercury vapor lamp, engineered to strike an arc immediately, then hold stable output at 365 nm and broad-spectrum UVA. Peak irradiance at the substrate hits 1200 mW/cm², and you’re looking at 800–1200 mJ/cm² for typical screen inks. A dichroic-coated reflector focuses the output while keeping IR heat in check, and the ozone-free quartz envelope keeps the air around the lamp clean. Expect 5,000+ hours at full output with under 5% drop, and lamp-to-lamp consistency within ±3%. Why it plays nice with elliptical screen lines Those presses give you a short, fixed flash-dry window set by the indexing. With an instant-start lamp, there’s no warm-up to burn time, so the dwell under the lamp is pure curing—no ramp-up. You can tighten the flash cycle, pick up index rate, and boost output without touching the press geometry. Power draw drops because the lamp is only on when it’s curing, and you get more uniform cure across the print, which cuts rejects from under-cure and color shift. The shop-floor details Matching the lamp to the machine is half the battle. Confirm reflector profile, lamp length, and the electrical interface—230 V, 400 W to 1000 W, and the right connector—before you order. The instant-start arc needs a dedicated power supply; don’t try to pair it with a conventional ballast, or you’ll burn out the electrodes early.
