On the floor, printing heat-sensitive fabrics has always been a thermal gamble. Traditional UV systems dump heat into the substrate, and you end up with shrinkage, color shift, and dimensional distortion. We built the UV lamp ceramic base SK15 for exactly that constraint. It gives you a cold-cure approach—keeps fabric temperature low while the ink cures fast.
What matters under the hood
The SK15 runs on a high-pressure mercury vapor lamp, married to a ceramic base that handles heat and gives you solid dielectric strength. The spectral output is tuned to the core photoinitiator absorption bands, with strong emission at 365nm and a balanced UVA profile that drives surface cure and through-cure without piling on IR. Peak irradiance at the substrate plane hits up to 1200 mW/cm², delivering 500–800 mJ/cm² in a single pass. That’s enough to fully cross-link typical UV flexo and screen inks on thin coatings.
The reflector uses a dichroic coating to push UV forward and let IR pass backward, so the substrate stays cooler. Lamp life is rated to 2000 hours, with controlled output decay, and the ceramic base holds contact integrity through high-frequency ignition cycles.
Why it behaves on heat-sensitive textiles
On fabrics that can’t take heat, the SK15’s cold-cure profile prevents fiber deformation and keeps the hand feel right. The spectral match cuts cure time, so you can run higher line speeds without blocking or losing adhesion. Energy use drops because the lamp cures on demand, and the ceramic base stabilizes thermally fast, so you don’t chase warm-up drift. You get tighter dot gain control, cleaner detail, and fewer rejects from heat distortion.
Here’s what to keep straight on the line
Match the lamp to your printer’s reflector geometry and the shutter duty cycle. Check ignition voltage and lead length against your power supply—spacing on the ceramic base has to be spot-on to avoid arcing. Use a radiometer at the substrate plane to monitor spectral output, and track cumulative energy to set your PM schedule. The SK15 is ozone-free, but you still need proper ventilation to manage any minor heat bleed.
